Weight Loss Tips

Getting motivated to lose those party kilos is tough. In fact, the hardest part, according to my personal survey, is getting started again. We make plans to exercise. When it comes to getting down to it, suddenly we find a hundred other things to do! How do you crack that?

Is it possible to get excited about getting back to exercise?
Good question. OK, when do you get excited about exercise? Just deciding to start exercising makes me feel good— almost like I’ve already done something! The problem occurs when it’s time to follow through and my motivation has suddenly disappeared. If that sounds familiar, maybe it’s time to focus your attention on what’s important. Deciding to get back to exercise is important, but it’s what you do to follow through that really matters.
Weight loss tips
1. Make specific goals
Instead of vague goals of weight loss, decide exactly what you want to accomplish and why. Determine how much weight you want to lose and a deadline for losing it. Or, why not have a resolution that is a bit more functional, such as developing a stronger back for picking up your kids or a healthy diet so you have more energy all day long?

2. Educate yourself
You’ve decided you want to lose weight this year.
OK, but now you have to figure out how to do it. No, you don’t need to get a master’s in exercise physiology, but you do need to get the info on how it’s done. Educating yourself means you know exactly what it takes to reach your goal. Use the Web or the local gym to source information.

3. Make a plan
Now you need to figure out exactly how you’re going to achieve your goal. If it’s weight loss, make a specific plan for how you’ll do it. Ask questions. What kind of cardio will you do? How often? And what about your weight- training program? Can you combine Pilates with other routines? Figure out how you’ll put everything together into a plan. You will also get an idea how much it may cost you if you plan ahead. You can then choose the best option.

4. Prepare yourself
Now that you’ve figured out what you want to do, you want to get down to it. Motivate yourself by treating yourself to new sports gear or heading out to the gym for a membership. Lose those kilos. Get everything you need and, more importantly, prepare yourself each day for your workout. Pack the bag for the gym the night before or lay out your clothes for an early morning jog.

5. Follow through
You know the excitement of making changes and taking action is motivating enough to keep you going throughout January and maybe even February. But, at some point, that excitement is going to wear off so you need to have a Plan B ready. Keep a list of your goals handy so that when the enthusiasm fades you can go back and remember why you started it in the first place. This way you’ll stick to it much longer!
