Exercise is one of the most effective anti-ageing secrets. An aerobic session of 30 to 40 minutes, four to five times a week or a brisk walk will do. Dedicated exercises for the neck include circular and side to-side movements of your head 15 to 20 times a day. But overdoing neck exercises can lead to further sagging.
Anti-ageing products that you use on the face will work on the neck as well. Start using them when you are in your 20s. If you’re older, begin right away.
Cosmeceutics or products developed using both pharmaceutical and medical science includes sunscreen, the most effective anti-ageing product. Use it on your face, neck, décolletage (upper chest) and the nape. The SPF should be 30 or more and it should be used every day, even if you are indoors. Reapply every two to three hours when you are traveling or on the beach or in the mountains. The intensity of UV rays is more at high altitudes.
Anti-oxidants protect the skin from sun damage. They neutralize free radicals formed due to stress, exposure to sun, pollution and ageing. Many lotions and creams contain anti-oxidants. Vitamin C analogues reduce damaging oxygen radicals and stimulate collagen synthesis. Other anti-oxidants like Vitamins E and K also play a role in the treatment of photo-ageing. The latest anti-oxidants are Ubiquinone or Coenzyme Q10 and Idebenone.
